The National Teaching Council (NTC) has introduced to the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana’s representative at this year’s Top 10 Best Teachers in the world, Mr Evans Odei.
At a courtesy call, the NTC, led by its Registrar, Dr Christian Addai-Poku, introduced the 43-year old senior high school teacher, who has been shortlisted for the top 10 Global Teachers Awards slated to take place on November 10, 2021. He is a mathematics teacher at the Achimota SHS in Accra.
The candidate was adjudged the overall best teacher for the SHS category by the Ghana Teacher Prize last year and among the top 10 for the Ghana Teacher Prize 2021.
The nominee who has been teaching for the past 21-years taught maths and pre-technical subjects for four years before pursuing a degree course in maths at the University of Cape Coast.
Innovation
Mr Odei had earlier taught maths at the Swedru School of Business for 13 years.
Notable among the innovations he has brought into the teaching field are a compilation of maths topics in both core and elective maths into power points for presentations in class.
He adds pictures and videos in his presentations to make the teaching and learning of maths real and full of fun to his students.
Aside of these, he has self-recorded videos as he presents lessons on Google classroom and on YouTube for free, for use by people across the globe.
In a brief comment, Dr Adutwum observed that Ghana was among nations with the best trained and dedicated teachers in the world.
The minister attributed the winning of international awards and nominations of some Ghanaian teachers by international agencies recently, as a testimony of his ascension.
Dr Adutwum, therefore, pledged the government’s preparedness to continue to improve the welfare of teachers in the country.
Exhortation
Dr Adutwum lauded the candidate, “for making the nation proud with this achievement.”
The minister assured him of the government’s support as he prepared for the final showdown of the contest.
