The National Inspectorate Board (NIB) has directed all private schools who are still teaching their learners after the President’s directive to shut down schools amidst the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to send their learners home immediately.
The NIB made this revelation in a statement issued on March 22,2020 by its Acting Executive Secretary, Hagar Hilda Ampadu ,after it received reports of the situation ongoing at some private schools across the country.
The NIB further indicated the suspension of the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for 2020.
In line with the above directive, the NIB wishes to inform and direct that:
1.All private schools and school owners, TVET schools and GES should discharge all final year
learners both JHS 3 and SHS 3 candidates to go home effective Monday 23rd March 2020 until further notice.
2.All technical vocational pre-tertiary final year examinations should be suspended effective
Monday 23rd March 2020 until further notice.
3.All private schools preparing learners for international certification examinations (e.g IGCSE) should send all learners home from their boarding facilities effective Monday 23rd March 2020 until further notice and are at liberty to make alternate virtual arrangements for writing these examinations. Writing any form of examinations (mock etc.) in examination halls are not permitted until further notice.
4.The NIB is therefore encouraging all parents to pick up their wards to allow the schools to fully abide by this directive.
