A Brief History of Navrongo SHS
Founded in 1960 by Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Navrongo Senior High School is one of the oldest second-cycle institutions in Northern Ghana. Located in Navrongo, Kassena-Nankana Municipality, the school was part of Nkrumah’s vision to extend quality education to northern Ghana to bridge the developmental divide.
NAVASCO has since grown into a respected academic institution with a track record of excellence in science, arts, and civic education.
Academic Achievements and Legacy
Navrongo SHS boasts:
- Multiple appearances at the NSMQ national level, with notable performances in the early 2000s and a strong resurgence post-2015.
- Alumni are contributing significantly to Ghana’s public sector, academia, health sciences, and engineering.
- A robust STEM-focused academic culture, supported by science laboratories, experienced tutors, and a disciplined student body.
- Excellence in WASSCE results, especially in general science and business programs.
The school motto, “LUX BOREALIS” (Light of the North), remains a symbol of its commitment to educational leadership in Northern Ghana.
What This Means for NAVASCO
This victory is not just a qualification—it’s a return to form. NAVASCO’s solid team chemistry, strategic answering, and calm under pressure have set them apart once again. As they gear up for Accra, many old students (NAVASCANS) are hopeful this year could mark a return to national glory.
