MoE urged to help clear Educational Materials from the Tema Port

A group concerned about education in Ghana, the Offinsoman Association of the United State of America, and Canada has petitioned the Ministry of Education to assist them in clearing some educational materials from the Tema Port.

The President of the Association, Mrs. Ama Nimoh-Sefah who made the appeal said the Association in 2019 shipped a 40-feet container with large quantities of computers and accessories, as well as exercise books to be distributed to students in the Offinso municipality.

Mrs. Ama Nimoh-Sefah indicated that the shipped educational materials form part of the Association’s charity programme to promote effective teaching and learning in the municipality.

According to Mrs Nimoh-Sefah, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division directed the Association to route their application for tax exemption to the GRA through the Education Ministry, of which the Association has done but are yet to receive any response.

She said there is a need for the Government of Ghana and other relevant stakeholders to intervene to support the agent to clear the items and distribute them to the students whom some are preparing to write their final examinations.
