Established in 2012, the Methodist College of Education is a young College of Education in the Birim Central Municipal Assembly of the Eastern Region of Ghana. It started as a private institution and was absorbed by the government to become one of the 46 Ghanaian Public Colleges of Education in 2017.
The College initially had problems with posting of it graduates since it was private. But from the time it was absorbed, all graduates who successfully passed their prescribed examinations have all been fully posted to teach in various regions across the country.
The College since 2015 has turned out six batches of graduates totalling six hundred and thirteen (613). The college together with a section of enthused graduates from the first batch in 2015 decided to formalize the Alumni Association and to have a very formidable alumni base for the College.
The outcome of several meetings of Management and the interim executives of the alumni was fruitful. The College set 29th July 2021 as the date for inducting into office the first set of Alumni executives after their draft constitution and resolution for the interim executives to assume substantive positions for the next three years were approved by the Principal.
The induction was conducted by the Principal; Very Rev. Solomon Kwame Gyamerah for the new executives on the morning of 29th July 2021. All six first executives of the Alumni were present for the induction service. They were:
- Mr. John Baptist – President
- Miss Edna K. Sintim – Vice President
- Mr. Elisha E. K. Agberzorlie – Secretary
- Mr. Christian B. Aboagye – Assist. Secretary
- Miss Charlotte Agamah – Treasurer
- Mr. Emmanuel O. Agyemang – Organizer
Apart from the Principal, other members of the College community including Mr. Leo Andoh Korsah – Ag. Vice Principal, Ms. Amy Agyapomaa-Ag. College Secretary, Very Rev. Isaac Kwofie- College Chaplain, some Academic Board, and staff members were present to grace the ceremony.
The Principal had inducted the officers into office in the presence of the whole College community and the executives were led to take the Alumni oath.
The President gave a speech of acceptance on behalf of all the other members. In his speech, he outlined that the formation of the Alumni group started in 2018 with few old students amidst several challenges but due to the determination cum perseverance of some initial planners, as at the time of the induction they had a little over 200 participants.

He, therefore, admonished the incoming graduates of the college not to relent in joining the METCOE alumni when they complete successfully.
He pledged to the Principal and Management about their determination to make the Alumni group flourish and attractive to fresh graduates to help build a united front to support their alma mater.
He mentioned that the Alumni are planning of having the first homecoming for old students in the coming year to bring back the unity among them. He said also that, the executives were opened to advice and recommendations from the Principal, management, and the whole METCOE Community to make them better.
He was finally grateful to the first Principal of the College-Mr. B. F. Anyan as well as the current Principal and his Management for the immense support rendered to the Alumni executives to have the group formerly established.
The Principal in his speech mostly provided advice and guidance for the newly inducted executives. He said the group should ensure unity in diversity to help bring everybody on board to make them grow.
He admonished them not to let the group end as just a WhatsApp group but go beyond that and provide professional support to one another to increase their chances of improving their career. He entreated the Alumni to provide support to the College because it is young and still faced with many teething problems especially in the area of infrastructure.
