Following successful borehole drilling, mechanization works have commenced at Mawuko Girls’ School under the “Water For All” Initiative, bringing reliable clean water to schools and communities across Ghana’s Volta Region.
Ho, Volta Region — April 15, 2025 – Mechanization works have officially begun at Mawuko Girls’ School following the successful drilling of a borehole on campus earlier this month.
This marks a significant milestone in the “Water For All” Initiative, which aims to provide consistent access to clean and reliable water for schools and surrounding communities across the Volta Region.
The project team mobilized heavy machinery this week to install submersible pumps, storage tanks, and distribution networks that will ensure a continuous water supply for the school’s 1,200 students and staff.
Once completed, the system will not only support the daily needs of Mawuko Girls’ but also serve nearby villages that have long struggled with water scarcity.
> “The Water For All Initiative is beautifully taking shape,” said the project coordinator. “We are committed to scaling these efforts across the Volta Region so that every school and community enjoys the fundamental right to clean water.”

Funded through a partnership between local government, international donors, and community contributions, the initiative has already completed drilling and mechanization at two other schools in Ho West District.
Planners expect the Mawuko Girls’ system to be fully operational by May 30, 2025, after which a phased rollout will begin at additional sites throughout the region.
The reliable water supply will improve hygiene and sanitation, reduce water‑borne illnesses, and free up valuable time for students—especially girls—who often spend hours fetching water from distant sources. School administrators anticipate that the new infrastructure will also boost attendance and academic performance.
As mechanization progresses at Mawuko Girls’, stakeholders are preparing to launch the next phase of the initiative in June 2025, targeting three more schools in the Keta and North Tongu districts.
