Education Minister Inaugurates New 17-Member GETFund Board to Drive Educational Transformation
Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, inaugurates a 17-member GETFund Board of Trustees to strengthen infrastructure, support Free SHS, and enhance resource mobilization for Ghana’s education sector.
Accra, Ghana – April 11, 2025 – In a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s educational landscape, Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has officially inaugurated a new 17-member Board of Trustees for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). The ceremony took place at the Fund’s headquarters in East Legon, signaling renewed focus on education financing and policy execution.
The newly formed Board, chaired by Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, MP for Ho West, brings together representatives from key institutions, including the Ministries of Education and Finance, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).
Also represented are stakeholders from the Ghana Bankers Association, Insurers Association, National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Christian Council, Association of Ghana Industries, and the Ghana Employers’ Association.
“GETFund remains central to our educational aspirations. From infrastructure to scholarships, its impact must be strategic and inclusive,” Hon. Iddrisu stated.

- Daniel Botchway – National Union of Polytechnic Students
- Grace Amey Obeng – Association of Ghana Industries
- Francisca Atuluk – National Council on Women and Development
- Alexander Frimpong – Ghana Employers’ Association
- Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis – Ghana Education Service
- John Awuah – Bankers Association
- Seth Kobla Aklasi – Insurers Association
- Patience Ablah Ganyo – NPRA
The Minister highlighted that no expenditure from the Fund can proceed without the Board’s approval, underscoring its legal and strategic importance. He further revealed that GETFund will play a pivotal role in sustaining the Free SHS programme and urged collaboration with CHASS, private entities, and development partners.
The Board has been tasked with addressing educational infrastructure deficits, promoting tertiary education access, and supporting research and innovation.
