Kenya: Grandmother Brings Chickens as School Fees, Kind Stranger Pays Girl’s Education to Form 4

A Kenyan grandmother’s heartfelt gesture of bringing live chickens as school fees touches hearts, prompting a generous donation from Nathaniel Odongo to support the girl’s education through Form 4.

A touching story has emerged from Karachuonyo, Kenya, where a grandmother carried six live chickens to school as payment after her granddaughter was sent home for unpaid fees.

In a moving turn of events, a kind-hearted young man, Nathaniel Odongo, stepped in after hearing the story. Deeply moved by the grandmother’s sacrifice and determination to see her granddaughter educated, Nathaniel paid Ksh 50,000 to cover her school fees and promised to fund her education through to Form 4.

The incident took place at Adiedo Mixed Secondary School in Homa Bay County. Reports say one of the chickens even laid an egg upon arrival at the school—underscoring the desperation and sincerity of the grandmother’s gesture.

The story has sparked widespread emotional reactions online, with many praising both the grandmother’s resilience and Nathaniel’s generosity.

This act of kindness not only changes the course of one girl’s life but serves as a powerful reminder of the value of education and the impact of community compassion.
