The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has summarily dismissed seven staff including two senior lecturers for “misconduct” and “insubordination”.
One of the sacked senior lectures is Dr Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, whose dismissal letter has been sighted by 3news.com.
They went to court to seek redress on the sacking of Professor Mawutor Avoke and four others by the Governing Council last year.
According to the letter signed by new Vice Chancellor Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, the dismissed did not exhaust internal structures of the University before proceeding to court.
“You used institutional time to go to court without seeking official permission.”
They were also accused of suing the University, its Governing Council as well the Registrar and Acting Vice Chancellor to make them unpopular.
“Your actions and inactions amounted to grave misconduct,” the letter insisted.
A decision was reached on the dismissed staff after investigations by the Disciplinary Board set up at the instance of the Vice-Chancellor.
The Acting Finance Officer has been notified of the sanctions and asked to delete the name of Dr Duku, Professor Avea Nsoh and the rest from the institution’s payroll.
