JUST IN: Teachers ‘cry foul’ over GES reduction of Printing Fee to GH2.50 Per Child

Teachers in the Greater Accra Region have criticized the decision of the Ghana Eduction Service (GES) to pay GHC2.50p per child for printing fees.

The teachers said the GES earlier released a statement which said it shall give a base grant of GHC3.50p per child for the conduct of their Term 3 exams.

Describing the situation as unfortunate,the teachers said the supposed GHC3.50 peer child was even not enough to print questions.

Meanwhile Schools in the  Northern Region are expected to start their terminal exams on Monday July 22,2019 due to the directive from the GES,directing all printing fees to be refunded.

Reports also suggests,some districts across the country have lesser than what districts in the Greater Accra Region had,a calculation which placed GH1.50P per child.

The Genesis

Headteachers in all Public Basic Schools have been directed to refund printing fees collected from Pupils for the conduct of the Third Term Exams

This directive came from a meeting between the National Executives of Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) ,Conference of Directors of Education (CODE)  and  the Dep. Dir. General in charge of Management Services: Lawyer Anthony Boateng .

Printing Questions on Credit

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has ordered all Public Basic Schools to contact printers in their localities to print their examination papers for them on credit while waiting for the BASED GRANT to settle such payments.

The Ghana Education Service said the supposed Based Grant shall be GHC 5.00per head and is expected to be released VERY SOON for the settlement of such debts.

Exams on Chalkboard

Headteachers in the Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region were being directed to write their third term exams on the chalkboard.

The headteachers were being directed to refund monies collected from pupils or parents for the purpose of printing of exam papers for the conduct of their third term exams.

Capitation Grants

Headteachers in the various public basic schools were being told to use their Capitation grants to organize this term’s (Third Term) Examination for the Pupils.

This had become the latest directive from the Ghana Education Service regarding the  third term examination for public basic schools.

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service,Prof. Kwesi Amankwah gave this directive in a letter dated July 5,2019 and sighted by EducationGhana.net.

The letter copied to all regional directors of education,indicated ,the Ghana Education Service has commenced a process to procure equipment for the printing of Examination papers in the Basic Schools.

Release of Funds

The Ghana Education Service (GES)  released Capitation Grant to all Public Schools for the conduct of their Third Term Exams.

The GES confirmed the payment of the monies to the accounts of the various District Directorates in a letter dated July 9,2019 to all regional directors of education.

According to the GES, all schools are to receive GHC3.50 per child for the conduct of their Third Term Exams.
