Minister’s Pledge at Sunyani Technical University
On 9 April 2025, during his first engagement with the Conference of Heads of Government‑Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) at Sunyani Technical University, Education Minister Hon. Haruna Iddrisu announced that Ghana’s double‑track system will be fully phased out by 2027. Addressing principals and educational leaders, he emphasized that ending the split‑semester model is central to improving teaching quality and student experience.
Infrastructure Expansion Plans
To meet the 2027 deadline, the Ministry of Education will accelerate the construction of new classroom blocks, dormitories, and dining facilities. Iddrisu noted that partnerships with both domestic contractors and international donors are already underway to ensure that every school has the capacity to host a single cohort per academic term.
Policy and Funding Reforms
The Minister detailed reforms to the national education budget, allocating increased funds for capital projects and maintenance. He also highlighted forthcoming policy adjustments to streamline admissions and reduce administrative bottlenecks that have historically hindered the transition away from the double‑track model.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Hon. Iddrisu called on CHASS members, Ghana Education Service officials, and development partners to coordinate closely on timelines, resource mobilization, and community engagement. He underscored that collective commitment is essential to meet the 2027 target and deliver uninterrupted, full‑term schooling for all SHS students.
