The Ministry of Interior (MINT) has declared Friday, December 6, 2024, a statutory public holiday in Ghana. This day, which coincides with Farmers’ Day, comes just a day before the highly anticipated December 7 General Elections.

The declaration allows Ghanaians the opportunity to prepare and travel to cast their votes, a move widely welcomed across the country.


Farmers’ Day: A Tribute to Ghana’s Agricultural Heroes

Observed annually on the first Friday of December, Farmers’ Day celebrates the hard work and contributions of Ghanaian farmers and fishermen.

The first Farmers’ Day in Ghana was instituted in 1985, following severe famines in 1983 and 1984. It remains a momentous occasion to honor excellence in agricultural practices and outputs.

While the 2024 National Farmers’ Day celebrations were observed on November 8, the statutory public holiday on December 6 persists, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to recognizing its agricultural backbone.

Ahead of the polls on Saturday, December 7, the National Peace Council is set to host a peace pact signing on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
