Garden City University, Kumasi has begun constructing a 150-bed teaching hospital and commissioned new international students’ housing, boosting healthcare training and campus life.

Major Infrastructure Expansion at Garden City University

Garden City University, Kumasi has commenced the construction of a 150-bed teaching hospital and officially commissioned a new international students’ apartment as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare training and improve student accommodation. The projects are intended to enhance clinical training for health-related programmes while responding to the growing demand for quality housing among international students enrolled at the university.

Teaching Hospital to Strengthen Health Training

The planned teaching hospital will serve as a practical training centre for students in nursing, physician assistantship, and other allied health programmes. University authorities say the facility will reduce overreliance on external hospitals for clinical placements and improve supervision, research, and hands-on learning. The hospital is also expected to provide healthcare services to surrounding communities, reinforcing the university’s role in regional development.

New Apartment Targets International Students

Alongside the hospital project, the university commissioned a modern apartment facility designed specifically for international students. The accommodation offers improved security, study-friendly spaces, and amenities aligned with global student housing standards. University management noted that the new facility forms part of a broader strategy to position Garden City University as a competitive destination for students from across Africa and beyond.

Alignment With National Higher Education Goals

The development aligns with Ghana’s broader push to expand tertiary health education capacity and improve infrastructure in private universities, as overseen by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission .

Looking Ahead

Construction of the teaching hospital is expected to proceed in phases, with the university indicating that further infrastructure investments are planned to support academic growth and student welfare. Garden City University, teaching hospital, higher education infrastructure, healthcare training, international students, private universities in Ghana.
