Some former students of the Ghana School of Law have hailed the scholarship fund project initiated by the current Students Representative Council (SRC) of the school to financially support needy students.

The Head of the Legal Department at the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Madam Barbara Wuttor was full of praise for the 2021/2022 SRC executives of the Ghana School of Law for championing the initiative to cushion students with the payment of fees.

Madam Wuttor made the commendation when some executives of the SRC of the Ghana School of Law called on the management of the Ghana Standards Authority on Tuesday.

The visit was to invite the Director-General of GSA, Prof. Alex Dodoo to an upcoming public lecture and to seek the support of the authority towards the SRC Week celebration as well as the scholarship fund.

The fund is to help cushion students in need of financial support.

Madam Wuttor recalled that school fees used to be a problem during their time in 2006 and was shocked such an issue still persist.

“SRC used to be for enjoyment during our time. The week celebration was seen as a period to go for support and how to make ourselves happy. We even went to see the current President at the time he was the Minister For Justice and Attorney General who gave us some support,” she recalled.

The manager for Business Development at the GSA, Mr. George Anti who is also a lawyer and was at the meeting disclosed that he equally served on a committee of the SRC during his time but nowhere was there any idea to institute a fund to help achieve the overall goal of students which is their calling to the Bar.

The Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority, Prof. Alex Dodoo on his part, promised to lend the support of the Authority to the fund by getting its working institutions to contribute to the fund and support the upcoming SRC week.

Together with the management, Prof. Dodoo pledged to see how it can accept the proposal for the Authority to become the headline sponsor for the upcoming SRC week, which is expected to come off in February 2022.

In his introductory remarks earlier, the President of Ghana School of Law SRC, Mr. Wonder Victor Kutor outlined the selection criteria for the scholarship fund beneficiaries.

He said the process will be transparent and will not seek to favour any student except on the basis of merit.

He gave the firm assurance that the SRC, which is compiling a journal, will prominently feature the activities of the Ghana Standards Authority in some of its pages.
