Dr. Kwesi Eduafo Yankey, an accomplished entrepreneur, philanthropist, and seasoned leader, has been sworn in as the first-ever Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University (KTU). This historic appointment cements his reputation as a visionary committed to fostering academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable development.

Academic and Professional Foundations

Dr. Yankey’s academic journey began at Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School and continued through institutions in Axim and Navrongo, where he earned his Advanced Level Certificate.

In 1974, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration, specializing in Marketing and Finance, from the University of Ghana. His quest for diversified knowledge led him to pursue advanced certifications, including a banking certificate from the University of Colorado, a training certificate in insurance from the Ghana Insurance College, and a Global Health Delivery Intensive Program certificate from Harvard University in 2017.

Career Milestones

Dr. Yankey started his professional career in banking in Boulder, Colorado, USA, before returning to Ghana in the late 1970s.

His diverse career includes serving as Commercial Manager at A-Lang Construction Firm, where he gained invaluable experience that fueled his entrepreneurial ventures.

He founded Dumakwae Limited, a construction company, and expanded his portfolio to include Barrett Industries Limited, Barrett Farms Limited, and other ventures, showcasing his prowess in business and innovation.

Board Memberships and Contributions

Dr. Yankey has played pivotal roles in various organizations, including the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company, Panbros Salt Industries Limited, and Nexus Metals and Ceiling Limited.

His strategic leadership has been instrumental in transforming struggling companies into thriving enterprises. He has also served on the Advisory Boards of the University of Ghana Business School, the College of Health Sciences, and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

Advocacy and Philanthropy

An advocate for education and social justice, Dr. Yankey was Chairman of the University of Ghana Alumni Association from 2011 to 2018.

His tenure witnessed enhanced alumni engagement and significant contributions to scholarships, health initiatives, and institutional development. He was a driving force behind the establishment of the University of Ghana Alumni Centre and the construction of the Jubilee Hall.

Recognition and Community Leadership

Dr. Yankey’s contributions have been widely recognized, earning him an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Ghana in 2023. In December 2022, he was enstooled as Agonahene of the New Juaben Traditional Area under the stool name Nana Kwesi Boama.

As Chancellor of KTU, Dr. Yankey aims to transform the institution into a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. His vision includes fostering industry partnerships, enhancing infrastructure, and equipping students with the skills and confidence to excel.

Dr. Yankey is a devoted family man with four children: Esi, Kosi, Kofi Krofu, and Kobina Nketsia. An avid reader, philanthropist, sports enthusiast, and advocate for social justice, he embodies leadership rooted in community and excellence.
