The Ghana Education Service has been ‘warned’ by the National Executive (NE) of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) not to resume the ‘controversial’ GES-SIC Group Policy deductions in September.
The National Executives at a meeting held on September 17,2019 said it has taken serious notice of the correspondence from the Director General vis as vis his indication at a press conference that the deduction will resume in September,2019.
The National Executives said the Director General shall be notified in writing of their decision on the GES/SIC Insurance Policy so that the deduction does no resurface.
The leadership of the Association further indicated that the deduction when carried out will give rise to serious upheavals.
The leadership has been tasked to on behalf of the NE write to the National Labour Commission (NLC) seeking interpretation or to have audience with the NLC on Articles 69 and 70 of the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651) since the NLC is the custodian of the Labour Act.

The leadership said the idea of the Union asking the SIC to go out there to educate their members for those interested to join should not be championed by GNAT but should reside with the SIC.
The NE frowns on the call for members of GNAT to fill exit form before refund and stoppage of deduction.
