CAGD Begins Payment of Salary Arrears for Education and Health Workers

Controller and Accountant-General’s Department confirms commencement of salary arrears payments for affected education and health workers from August 2024.


CAGD Announces Commencement of Arrears Payments

The (CAGD) has announced the commencement of salary arrears payments owed to affected education and health sector workers across the country.

In a press release dated May 26, 2026, the Department assured beneficiaries that all outstanding arrears dating back to August 2024 would be paid according to an approved payment schedule.


Four-Month Instalment Payment Plan

According to the statement, the arrears will be settled in four instalments covering a total of 16 months.

The approved payment schedule is as follows: Payment Month Number of Months’ Arrears May 2026 4 months June 2026 4 months July 2026 4 months August 2026 4 months

The Department further indicated that the first tranche of payments would be completed by Friday, May 29, 2026.


Education and Health Workers to Benefit

The payment exercise is expected to benefit affected workers within the education and health sectors who have experienced delays in salary arrears processing since August 2024.

The announcement follows earlier communication from the regarding approval from the Ministry of Finance for the settlement of outstanding salary arrears for eligible staff.


CAGD Assures Beneficiaries of Full Payment

The assured beneficiaries that the remaining tranches would be paid according to schedule.

The Department also thanked affected workers for their patience and cooperation throughout the delay period.

The statement was signed by on behalf of the Controller and Accountant-General.


Relief for Affected Workers

The commencement of payments is expected to bring relief to many teachers, health professionals, and public sector workers who have awaited the clearance of arrears for several months.

Stakeholders in the education and health sectors have consistently called for timely salary processing and improved payroll administration to reduce financial hardship among workers.
