GES Takes Immediate Action Following Viral Video

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted a teacher at Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region following the emergence of a video on social media allegedly showing inappropriate sexual conduct involving the teacher and a student.

According to an official statement issued by the GES Public Relations Unit on June 16, 2026, management became aware of the incident after the circulation of what it described as a “disturbing video” and has since commenced investigations into the matter.

The statement, referenced GES/HQ/PR/26/141, emphasized the Service’s commitment to protecting students and maintaining professional standards within Ghana’s education system.

Teacher Interdicted Pending Investigations

GES disclosed that the teacher has been interdicted in accordance with established rules and regulations governing the conduct of staff members.

Interdiction is an administrative measure that temporarily removes an employee from active duty while investigations are conducted. During this period, the affected officer remains on a portion of their salary pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.

The Service indicated that the interdiction is intended to ensure a fair and transparent investigation process.

GES Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy

In its statement, GES reiterated its strong opposition to any form of inappropriate relationship between teachers and students.

Management stressed that:

“GES strongly condemns all forms of amorous relationships between teachers and students.”

The Service further emphasized that safeguarding learners remains a top priority and that all staff members are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.

Student Welfare Remains a Priority

GES assured parents, guardians, and the general public that the welfare and safety of students remain paramount.

According to the statement, management is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness and will ensure that due process is followed throughout the investigation.

The Service indicated that any person found culpable after investigations may face both disciplinary and legal consequences.

Possible Role of the National Teaching Council

Beyond administrative sanctions by GES, cases involving alleged professional misconduct by teachers may also be referred to the for further action.

The NTC is responsible for regulating the teaching profession in Ghana and has the authority to investigate breaches of professional conduct, including matters that may affect a teacher’s licence to practise.

Where misconduct is established, sanctions may range from suspension to revocation of a professional teaching licence.

Child Protection Considerations

GES did not disclose details relating to the identity of the student involved or provide specific information regarding the timeline of investigations.

This approach is consistent with child protection principles and legal requirements aimed at safeguarding minors from further harm, stigmatization, or exposure during ongoing investigations.

Growing Attention on Professional Conduct in Schools

The development comes amid increasing public scrutiny of professional conduct within educational institutions and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect students from abuse and exploitation.

Education stakeholders have consistently emphasized the need for strict adherence to professional ethics, continuous monitoring, and effective reporting mechanisms to ensure safe learning environments across the country.

Conclusion

The interdiction of the Bole SHS teacher marks the latest effort by GES to enforce professional standards and protect students within Ghana’s pre-tertiary education sector. As investigations continue, stakeholders will be closely monitoring the outcome and any subsequent disciplinary or legal actions.

GES has assured the public that it remains committed to ensuring accountability and maintaining public confidence in the education system.
