Awudome SHS Triumphs in Day Two Opener with Commanding Win at NSMQ 2025 Preliminary Stage

Awudome SHS began Day Two of the NSMQ 2025 Preliminary Stage at UCC with a decisive 46-point victory over Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS and Vakpo SHS, earning their place in the next round with confidence and composure.

Awudome SHS Dominates Contest Three

The third contest of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) preliminary stage, held on Monday, October 21, 2025, at Auditorium 900, University of Cape Coast (UCC), saw Awudome Senior High School deliver a remarkable performance that set the tone for the day’s proceedings.

Facing Akumfi Ameyaw Senior High Technical School and Vakpo Senior High School, the team from Awudome SHS displayed superior coordination and technical accuracy throughout the five rounds, finishing with an impressive 46 points. Their opponents, Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS and Vakpo SHS, followed with 28 and 13 points respectively.

Consistency and Confidence

From the onset, Awudome SHS demonstrated a commanding grasp of scientific concepts and quick recall, leading comfortably after the first two rounds. The team’s composure under pressure reflected experience gained from their previous NSMQ campaigns.

Notably, the Volta-based school’s strength lay in problem-solving and speed, particularly in the “True or False” and “Problem of the Day” sections, where they secured near-perfect scores. Their measured approach in the final riddle round sealed their dominance, leaving no room for a comeback from their rivals.

History of Performance in NSMQ

Awudome SHS has gradually established itself as a resilient contender in the Volta Region NSMQ circuit, often delivering spirited performances in the preliminaries. Their most recent appearance before 2025 saw them narrowly miss progression after a tough contest against regional heavyweights, but this year’s result signifies renewed determination and preparation.

The school’s science faculty has in recent years expanded its mentorship and quiz training sessions, a move that appears to be yielding positive outcomes.

What Lies Ahead

With this strong start, Awudome SHS now advances to the one-eighth stage of the competition, joining other early qualifiers such as Ofori Panin SHS and Kumasi Academy.

If their tactical discipline and teamwork remain consistent, they stand a realistic chance of progressing deeper into the championship. Their upcoming matches, however, will test their ability to handle pressure from nationally recognized giants in the competition.

For the students of Vakpo SHS and Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS, the contest provided valuable lessons in preparation and coordination. Both schools exhibited flashes of brilliance, but inconsistencies in the later rounds cost them crucial points.

The Bigger Picture

The NSMQ 2025 preliminary contests at UCC continue to deliver thrilling moments, highlighting the academic depth and regional balance of Ghana’s secondary education system. As the competition unfolds, attention now turns to the remaining Day Two fixtures, where more schools will battle for qualification spots.

For Awudome SHS, this victory is more than a scoreline—it is a statement of intent. The Volta Region may once again produce a dark horse capable of challenging the traditional powerhouses as the road to the grand finale in Accra continues
