Ferdinand | EducationGhana | May 30 | YEA Partners with Shatta Wale’s SHAXI to Create Thousands of Jobs for Ghanaian Youth
Accra, Ghana — In a groundbreaking move to tackle youth unemployment through innovation, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has announced a strategic partnership with Ghanaian music icon Shatta Wale and his ride-hailing initiative SHAXI.
The initiative, unveiled after a high-level meeting between YEA CEO Malik Basintale and the SHAXI team, aims to create thousands of transport-related jobs for young Ghanaians in the coming months.
Under this public-private partnership, YEA will provide direct support to the first 2,000 vehicles that subscribe to the SHAXI platform. Each of these vehicles will receive GHC500 worth of fuel coupons per month for a six-month period — a move intended to reduce operational costs and incentivize more youth to enter the transport sector.
“This partnership demonstrates how innovative collaboration can lead to meaningful solutions for youth unemployment,” said Malik Basintale, CEO of YEA.
But that’s not all — in a move that further enhances employment potential, SHAXI vehicles that commit to 24-hour operations will qualify for additional incentives. This shift-based model ensures that two young people can be employed per car, effectively doubling the employment impact of each vehicle.

A Star-Powered Strategy for Change
SHAXI — short for “Shatta” Taxi”—was launched by Shatta Wale as a youth-driven, homegrown alternative to traditional ride-hailing services. With a mission to empower the youth through entrepreneurship and innovation, SHAXI quickly gained national attention.
“This is not just about transport. It’s about putting money into the hands of young people and giving them dignity through decent work,” Shatta Wale has said of the SHAXI project.
This new collaboration with YEA is expected to further boost SHAXI’s visibility, scale, and social impact, aligning closely with the government’s youth employment agenda.
Game-Changer in Youth Empowerment
This initiative marks one of the most high-profile collaborations between a government agency and a celebrity-driven private enterprise. Stakeholders say the program has the potential to transform the gig economy in Ghana and position SHAXI as a leading force in the youth employment space.
With Ghana’s youth unemployment rate remaining a key national challenge, the partnership sets a bold precedent for other sectors to follow — combining celebrity influence, tech innovation, and state support to deliver real results.
As implementation begins, expectations are high, and many are watching to see how the SHAXI–YEA model could inspire similar initiatives in other regions or industries.
