Work has resumed for the construction of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The Construction of the multi-million dollar University of Ghana Sports stadium was started in 2004 by CONSAR Limited under the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Work on the facility has halted due to the inability of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund )to finance the project for over 14 years

Prior to Election 2016, the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo promised to resume work and make sure work is completed on the stadium to boost sporting activities in the University of Ghana and Ghana as a whole.

With Ghana securing the rights to host the 2023 All African Games, measures are been put in place to get the stadium completed so as to serve as a venue for the games.

The Akufo-Addo led government has begun renovating and upgrading  sporting infrastructure such as the Accra and Cape Coast Sports Stadia, and the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Kaneshie, and a complete refurbishment of sports facilities across the country.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium is one of the venues earmarked for the 2023 All Africa Games which will be hosted by Ghana.

The facility would also be helpful to Ghanaian athletes as they get ready to take part in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Already, Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is putting up mini stadia all over the country to help develop talents in the various regions.
