UGBS partners with Ministry of Youth Development and British Council to promote youth entrepreneurship through the Adwumawura Programme, targeting 10,000 jobs via training, funding, and mentorship.

Accra, Ghana – May 19, 2025 – The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) is set to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment and the British Council to drive youth entrepreneurship under the Adwumawura Programme, which aims to create 10,000 jobs through training, funding, and mentorship.

The partnership focuses on empowering Ghanaian youth by equipping them with the practical skills, global networks, and financial resources needed to build sustainable businesses.

New Digital Youth Hub to Spur Innovation

Professor Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development at the University of Ghana, revealed plans to establish a Digital Youth Hub to help students develop business ideas, especially in the fields of art, technology, agriculture, fintech, health, and education.

“We’re creating a space where students can learn, create, and launch innovations that will impact their communities,” he said.

Call for Experiential Learning

Mr. Nii Dodo Dodo, Country Director of the British Council Ghana, urged universities to go beyond traditional learning by integrating hands-on experience, entrepreneurial thinking, and global exposure into their academic models.

He proposed international collaborations, allowing Ghanaian students to co-create businesses with peers from cities like Leicester, Berlin, or California, thereby enhancing their competitiveness on a global scale.

Strategic Alliances for Global Reach

Mr. Dodo emphasised the need for strategic partnerships that offer young entrepreneurs funding, mentorship, and access to international markets. He noted that such collaborations can help student-led startups bypass trade and immigration barriers, giving them a global advantage.

The UGBS partnership is part of a larger vision to ensure Ghana’s youth are well-equipped to compete in the global economy, while also contributing meaningfully to national development.
