Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has been elected Chair of the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, assuming the role from January 1, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has been elected Chair of the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) for an initial two-year term, effective January 1, 2026.The announcement was made in an official release issued by the Association’s head office in London on January 8, 2026, marking a significant milestone for Ghanaian higher education leadership on the global stage.

A Major Milestone for Ghana’s Higher Education Sector

Professor Amfo’s election places her at the helm of one of the world’s most influential university networks, which represents over 500 universities across more than 50 Commonwealth countries.As Chair of Council, she will also serve as Chair of the Executive Committee of Council, providing strategic oversight and leadership to the Association’s governance structures.The role positions her to shape policy discussions, strengthen collaboration among member universities, and advance the ACU’s mission of promoting excellence, equity, and innovation in higher education across the Commonwealth.
