Discover the highlights of the Outstanding Teacher Summit 2024, which celebrated exceptional teachers, promoted innovative practices, and fostered collaboration among educators and industry experts.
The second edition of the Outstanding Teacher Summit 2024, held in June at the Accra College of Education, provided a new experience in teacher recognition and development. Convened by Madam Stella Gyimaah Larbi, Ghana’s Most Outstanding Teacher 2022, and organized by her non-profit organization, OUT International, the summit aimed to celebrate teachers, promote innovative teaching practices, and foster collaboration among educators and industry experts.
Summit Objectives
The summit was organized on the following objectives;
- Recognize and celebrate outstanding teachers.
- Provide a platform for teachers and students to showcase innovative projects.
- Foster collaboration between educators and industry professionals.
- Highlight the importance of education and teachers’ roles in societal development.
- Launch the Outstanding Teacher Magazine.
Keynote Speakers and Panelists
- Chairperson: Dr. Mrs. I. Stella Agyenim-Boateng, Vice Chairman, Public Services Commission.
- Guest Speakers: Dr. Kimberly West (Teach STEM Africa), Mavis Leonards (Global Sky Ltd. and A Jewel in the Street Foundation).
- Keynote Speaker: Dr. Maxwell Ampong, CEO, Maxwell Investments Group.
- Panelists: Dr. Legena Roberts-Kpinkpin (STEM Career Specialist), Dr. Gorkel Obro-Adibo (Global Wings Travel and Tour), Chief Iddi-Amin Fredous (2nd Runner-up, Ghana’s Most Outstanding Teacher 2023), Ivy Kinful Brew (Senior High Science Teacher), Alexandria Walton (Elementary Math & Science Educator), Gord-Afful (Lecturer & Memory Trainer).
Activities and Sessions
Project Fair: The summit began with a Project Fair where teachers and students presented innovative projects, fostering creativity and innovation.
Magazine Launch: Mr. Clifford Budu, Municipal Director of Education for Ashaiman, launched the Outstanding Teacher Magazine. The inaugural issue featured Dr. Mrs. Shine Agatha Ofori, Headteacher of West Africa SHS.
Cultural Performance: Madina SDA School showcased Ghana’s rich heritage through a cultural display, celebrating the country’s cultural diversity.
Panel Discussions:
- Industry Experts: Discussed the importance of STEM education, career readiness, and keeping teachers updated with industry trends.
- Educators: Shared best practices in teaching, focusing on innovative methods, peer education, and building student confidence.
Solidarity Messages:
- Mr. Sebastian Adama conveyed the Regional Director of Education’s commitment to teacher advancement.
- Mr. Clifford Henaku Budu encouraged continuous learning and positive influence among teachers.
Speaker Highlights:
- Mavis Leonards: Emphasized the transformative power of teachers in breaking poverty and inequality cycles.
- Dr. Kimberly West: Highlighted the significance of STEM education and the need for educators to engage, reflect, and mentor.
Keynote Address
Dr. Maxwell Ampong emphasized the critical role of teachers in shaping society, the importance of education, and the significant impact teachers have on students and communities.
Recommendations for Future Programs
- Support for Educators: Provide ongoing professional development.
- Encourage Innovation: Support creative teaching methods and project-based learning.
- Promote Collaboration: Enhance collaboration between educators, industry experts, and students.
- Celebrate Achievements: Recognize and celebrate outstanding teachers through events and publications.
- Future Planning: Implement detailed planning, seek sponsorships, and develop contingency plans for future events.
The Outstanding Teacher Summit 2024 successfully achieved its objectives, providing a platform for recognizing outstanding teachers, fostering collaboration, and promoting innovative teaching practices. The launch of the Outstanding Teacher Magazine marked a significant milestone in celebrating educators’ contributions.
