Stella Gyimaa Larbi, in her keynote speech at the Children’s Day Celebration at DPS International, emphasizes the importance of investing in children’s future. She shares personal experiences and challenges the youth to adopt the HIDE approach – Hard work, Interest, Determination, and Extended Discipline.”

Stella Gyimaa Larbi, a former National Best Teacher and a distinguished speaker, delivered a compelling keynote speech at the Children’s Day Celebration hosted by DPS International. The theme of the event, “Investing in our future means investing in our children,” inspired Larbi to share her thoughts on the critical role of education and personal development.

Addressing an esteemed audience, including the Founder of DPS, Board of Directors, stakeholders in education, parents, and students, Larbi began by reflecting on her own childhood experiences. She highlighted the influential role her father played in guiding her education, emphasizing the temporary nature of being a child and the lasting impact it creates.

Larbi shared her journey through college, emphasizing the importance of hard work, interest, belief, determination, and extended discipline, encapsulated in her HIDE approach. She encouraged the children in attendance to adopt this investment package for their future, emphasizing that the choices they make now will shape their tomorrow.

Drawing attention to the changing times and global challenges, Larbi underscored the urgency for young individuals to invest in themselves. She challenged them to set standards, believe in their capabilities, involve themselves in various activities, explore their potential, and engage with the world around them.

In a heartwarming moment, Larbi introduced the acronym SMILES as a guide for parents to invest beyond monetary means. Setting standards, making children believe in themselves, active involvement, allowing exploration and continuous engagement were highlighted as essential components of a parent’s investment.

Quoting Desmond Tutu, Larbi reminded the audience that doing “your little bit of good” collectively contributes to overwhelming positive change in the world. She concluded by emphasizing the collective responsibility to shape the future, leaving a lasting smile on the faces of the younger generation.

Stella Gyimaa Larbi’s keynote speech at DPS International resonated with the audience, sparking inspiration and reflection on the impact of education and positive parenting on the future of the youth.

STELLA GYIMAAH LARBI’S KEYNOTE SPEECH AT THE CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION AT DPS INTERNATIONAL

The future we seek stares us in the face. It’s an honour to be here upon your invitation to share my thoughts on the theme “Investing in our future means investing in our children”

Mr. Chairman, Founder of DPS, Board of Directors, Stakeholders in Education, Parents, Students, ladies and Gentlemen. Every elderly person was once a child. Being a child is temporary, but the outcome is paramount.

I look back to my days as a little girl, full of life, hustling, listening, and being responsive to directions. It still feels fresh in my memory that when Daddy requested I buy training college forms to attend college in addition to that of University of Ghana and University of Education, Winneba forms bought. I initially wanted to join my friend Naa Aku Tetteh (Mrs. Gwendy Laryea) to the Ghana Institute of journalism but daddy trashed that idea. It was relaxing to listen to my father because I admired what he did and loved the style of Awo Dede, my then Literature in English teacher.

Mr. Chairman, College was a whole mood. I survived through HIDE (Hard work-Interest and Believe-Determination and Extended Discipline). I found myself there, and had to leave a mark.
To you children, you can adopt my HIDE approach as your investment package for the future.

The future is you, and what you put in now, will determine your tomorrow and the impact you make.

Thirteen years ago, when I started working as a teacher, I realised that, placement at most of the agencies in Ghana was fixated, I was posted straight to my first school without any restrictions. A lot of people were retained at their Service Stations after university.

Today, times have changed. The year 2020, brought about a lot of revolution. The Climate situation keeps taking undesirable turn. We are experiencing burnings in the forest and temperatures are on different faces. The coral reefs are dying; the polar ice is melting. The world is at a crossroad.

Mr. Chairman, with several wars stretching it ugly heads, it is only your investment in addition to what your parents put in, that will change your story.

I challenge you young lad and lass, to Invest in Hard work, invest in your interest as you believe it will yield fruit, put on the shield of determination and walk with extended discipline.

Mr. Chairman, Founder of DPS, Board of Directors, Stakeholders in Education, Parents, Students, ladies and Gentlemen. Your investment is appreciated, but I dare to say that, your investment goes beyond money. Your investment should produce a smile, and your smile will be dependent on your kind of investment.
Smile:
#S- Setting standards with your children (Let them be part of the decision-making process. That is investment)

#M- Make them believe they can (children are like different flowers. Fragile but beautiful. Make them work towards their inventions and not breaking the records of others, let them keep trying)

#I- involvement (Being part of all their activities and providing all their needs)

L- Leave them to explore (Let them make all the mistakes and be there to correct them. Assist them to discover for themselves)

E- Engage( Engage their friends in conversations, Engage their teachers, Engage them in activities beyond the school setting )

S- Smile (Your smile is the best investment you can give your child. Keep smiling as you set standards with them, make them believe they can, involve in their activities, leave them to explore, Engage them).

Mr. Chairman, Founder of DPS, Board of Directors, Stakeholders in Education, Parents, Students, ladies and Gentlemen. Desmond Tutu asserts that, do your little bit of good, it is those little bits of good put together that overwhelms the world.

The future stares at us in the face and our collective efforts will widen the smile.
