His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, December 27, 2024, officially launched the Accra Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academy, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s education landscape.
A New Era in STEM Education
Speaking on the academy’s inauguration, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the critical role of STEM education in shaping Ghana’s future.
“The Academy is a testament to the belief that education, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), holds the key to unlocking the full potential of our nation,” he remarked in a social media post.
Highlighting the rapid technological advancements shaping the modern world, he stated, “Technology drives progress in every aspect of life.
For Ghana to thrive, we must equip our young people with tools to succeed. STEM education is not a choice – it is a necessity.”
The President underscored the academy’s role as a hub for innovation, where students will be inspired to dream big, think critically, and solve tomorrow’s challenges.
“A Ghana where our students lead breakthroughs in robotics, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology is within reach,” he added.

Nationwide STEM Expansion
Beyond the Accra STEM Academy, the government is advancing STEM education nationwide. President Akufo-Addo announced the development of 20 STEM centres and 10 model STEM Senior High Schools equipped with cutting-edge facilities.
“From coding to robotics, our students are being prepared for the demands of the 21st century,” he stated.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah, described the academy as a strategic investment with far-reaching benefits.
“The Accra STEM Academy represents a transformative investment in Ghana’s future, poised to yield dividends for generations to come,” he affirmed.
The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, called the institution a “game-changer for education in Ghana,” adding, “This state-of-the-art institution equips our youth with the skills to lead in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Together, we are shaping a future of innovation and opportunity.”
