Police in the Ashanti Region, on Saturday, arrested some students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) who were on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The students, numbering about 34, were rounded up at midnight during the climax of a hall week celebration by students of the Unity Hall of KNUST.

According to the police, the students were transferred to the Regional CID in Kumasi after they failed to explain the reason for their presence on the KNUST campus at midnight.

Meanwhile, the Students Representative Council of the University of Cape Coast says that it has “taken initial steps to ascertain the veracity of the situation.”

“Some executives of the SRC, together with the Atlantic Hall President, have visited the police and have begun engagements with the CID in charge of the case”, parts of the statement read.

“All students should remain calm to avoid further aggravation of the situation”, the statement further added.

The arrest of the UCC students on KNUST’s campus comes after a warning from the Ashanti Regional Security Council, reminding members of the University community that the school was still a security zone and that there should be no activity that may disturb the peace of the university.
