Osei Tutu Senior High School showcased exceptional skill and resilience, emerging victorious in the 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Quarter-final held at the SGS Auditorium. Their impressive 46-point win secured a coveted spot in the Semi-final Stage, overcoming stiff competition from Apam SHS and GSTS.

The atmosphere was electric as supporters filled the auditorium, with Apam SHS setting a lively tone through their spirited singing and dancing. Osei Tutu SHS and GSTS also had vocal supporters, but it was the performance on stage that truly counted. Quiz Mistress Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann began the contest by introducing the contestants and outlining the stakes, setting the stage for an intense showdown.

 

Round-by-Round Breakdown

Round One – General Questions (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology)

The contest kicked off with a level playing field, as Osei Tutu SHS and Apam SHS tied for first place with 18 points each. GSTS, however, faced a rough start, managing only four points.

 

Round Two – Prudential Life Insurance Speed Race

Osei Tutu SHS started to pull ahead in the second round, demonstrating quick reflexes and accurate answers. They finished with 21 points, while Apam SHS trailed closely at 19 points. GSTS struggled to keep up, finishing the round with seven points.

 

Round Three – Problem of the Day

Osei Tutu SHS further extended their lead by scoring nine points in this round, raising their total to 30. Apam SHS stayed competitive, scoring seven points for a total of 26, while GSTS added four points to reach 11.

 

Round Four – Jupay Money Transfer True/False

The penultimate round saw Osei Tutu SHS solidifying their lead with a score of 43 points, as both they and GSTS answered seven questions correctly. Apam SHS managed to close the gap slightly, ending the round with 36 points.

 

Round Five – GOIL Super Bonanza

The final round was filled with drama as Apam SHS won the first riddle, giving their supporters hope of a comeback. However, missed opportunities on the next two riddles allowed Osei Tutu SHS to seal the victory by answering the last riddle, finishing the contest with 46 points. GSTS managed a respectable 30 points, while Apam SHS finished with 39 points.

 

GSTS Earns the GOIL Super Bonanza Award

 

Despite finishing third, GSTS earned the GOIL Super Bonanza Award for answering two riddles correctly, walking away with a GH₵1,000 prize. The spirited Apam supporters maintained their energy throughout, celebrating their team’s efforts despite the loss.
