CAPE COAST — Primetime Limited, organisers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has officially announced the postponement of the third quarter-final contest of the 2025 edition, which was scheduled to feature Prempeh College, Adisadel College, and Mfantsipim School at the University of Cape Coast on October 30, 2025.

The decision followed a major disruption caused by an uncontrollable crowd that breached the security barriers and forced entry into the auditorium despite prior measures to manage attendance.

“The postponement became necessary following a disruption caused by an uncontrollable crowd that forced its way into the auditorium, despite several measures we had put in place to manage the numbers,” Primetime stated in a release on October 31, 2025.

Reasons Behind the Postponement

According to Primetime, the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium was selected as the venue based on accessibility, availability, and stage suitability. The organisers made provision for the expected audience, allocating a quota of 50 supporters per school, with additional outdoor viewing setups including screens, chairs, and canopies.

Security personnel from the University of Cape Coast and the police were also arranged to maintain order. However, the surge of supporters eager to witness the contest live led to an unexpected breach.

“Unfortunately, the desire of many to be inside the recording hall led to the breach and the long hold-up of the start of the contest. Calling off the contest was the safest decision,” the statement continued.

Primetime Apologises to Fans and Schools

Primetime Limited expressed regret to all participating schools, supporters, and stakeholders who were disappointed by the turn of events, assuring that safety remains their top priority.

“We sincerely apologise to the participating schools, fans, and all stakeholders who were disappointed by the turn of events. Any inconvenience to you is deeply regretted,” the organisers said.

They further assured the public of their commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards during all NSMQ activities.

“We wish to assure you that Primetime places a premium on ensuring the protection of life and property at all times and that we shall continue to provide a safe environment for all participants.”

New Date to Be Announced Soon

Primetime noted that the rescheduled date and time for the postponed contest will be communicated in due course. Reliable sources within the NSMQ Production Team indicate that the next contest could be held behind closed doors to avoid similar disturbances.

The affected contest—featuring Prempeh College (Ashanti Region), Adisadel College (Central Region), and Mfantsipim School (Central Region)—is one of the most anticipated matches in the 2025 NSMQ quarter-final stage.

The organisers have called for calm and patience from all supporters as they work with the University of Cape Coast and security services to ensure a safe and smooth continuation of the competition.
