The “No Fees Stress Policy” officially launches at Koforidua SDA College of Education on July 4, 2025, with President Mahama, the Education Minister, and SLTF CEO unveiling a bold initiative to eliminate financial barriers in teacher education.
A New Era for Teacher Trainees: No More Financial Stress
The Koforidua SDA College of Education will host a historic event on Friday, July 4, 2025, as Ghana’s education leaders unveil the “No Fees Stress Policy” — a landmark initiative aimed at removing financial obstacles for teacher trainees across the country.
This transformative policy is designed to reduce student dropout, ensure timely access to learning, and foster a more equitable and inclusive teacher education system.
Top-Level Support Behind the Policy
The event will be graced by:
- President John Dramani Mahama
- Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu
- CEO of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF)
Together, these national figures will outline how the policy relieves students of upfront fees, while ensuring continuous access to tuition, residential accommodation, and feeding.
“We believe no Ghanaian student should abandon their dream of becoming a teacher due to fees,” stated the Minister.
How the Policy Works
Under the No Fees Stress Policy, eligible teacher trainees can:
- Enroll without paying upfront tuition fees
- Access interest-free loans through SLTF
- Register online through https://www.sltf.gov.gh
- Stay in school without financial delays or deferrals
This scheme is expected to increase enrollment and retention, especially in underserved areas where financial hardship often hinders access to higher education.
