Wondering how long it takes to receive your salary after GES posting? Here’s the official salary processing timeline for newly posted teachers in Ghana and how to avoid delays.

👩🏽‍🏫 Why Your Salary Delay May Not Be an Error

For newly posted teachers under the Ghana Education Service (GES), the wait for your first salary can feel endless but it often follows a specific process that depends on your promptness, document submission, and clearance.

This guide breaks down the full New Teacher Salary Processing Timeline and what each step involves.

📝 Step 1: Reporting and Assumption of Duty (Week 1)

    What You Must Do:

    • Report to your assigned school within 5 working days.

    • Submit your posting letter.

    • Get your Assumption of Duty form endorsed by the headteacher.

    • Send the endorsed form to your District Education Office.

📌 Delay here can delay your entire salary process.

    🗂️ Step 2: Document Verification & Forwarding (Week 2–4)

At the district level, your documents will be:

    • Verified by the Human Resource Officer

    • Captured by the IPPD Coordinator

    • Forwarded to the GES Regional Office, and then to GES Headquarters

    Key Documents Required:

    • Endorsed posting letter

    • Assumption of Duty form

    • National ID (Ghana Card)

    • SSNIT number

    • Passport photo

    • Bank account details (preferably CAGD-compatible)

🧾 Step 3: Staff ID Generation (Month 2–3)

Once your documents reach GES Headquarters:

    • Your Staff ID will be generated by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).

    • You will be notified via SMS or through your District Office.

🛑 No Staff ID = No Salary.
Do not expect payment until your Staff ID is created.

    💳 Step 4: Biometric Registration (Month 3–4)

    After receiving your Staff ID:

    • You’ll be required to undergo biometric registration at a designated CAGD center.

    • This links your payroll credentials and completes your entry into the government salary system.

📅 Appointments are often booked in batches by district stay alert and check announcements.

💰 Step 5: First Salary Payment (Month 4–5)

    After biometric registration:

    • Your salary will be paid during the next pay cycle.

    • If you registered in April, for example, expect your first salary by end of May or June.

📌 Note: GES typically processes salary arrears from your date of assumption if all documents were properly submitted.

🔁 Salary Arrears Payment (Month 6+)

Arrears may be paid 1–3 months after your first salary, depending on:

    • Government releases

    • Processing volume

    • Clearance validation

📝 Tip: Always keep digital and hard copies of all your submission receipts and Staff ID documents in case of disputes.
