The Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. has sworn in new members of the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast. The nominees are:

Maame Adjoa Gyeke -Jandoh – President’s Nominee, – Member Prof. Eric Anane – Representative of Convocation (Professorial), – Member Dr Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai – Education Commission. – Member

The Nominees took the Oath of Office, and Oath of Secrecy to serve and uphold the University Governing Council at all times, and to keep information regarding their duties confidential.
In an address at the ceremony, the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, pointed out that the
President’s great agenda for transformation in the country was education, and as Chairman and Members of the Governing Council had a critical role to play to ensure the realization of the President’s educational agenda.
He urged the Governing Council to pay close attention to the instructional and curriculum aspect of the University.
“I know that invariably you are bogged down with petitions, governance and infrastructure issues with less space to be engrossed in the teaching and learning process. You should be interested in the quality of the graduates that are coming from your institution. Be interested in whether your graduates are getting or not getting jobs,” he said.

He further expressed that “Universities must reinvent themselves to become more versatile and more agile to facilitate the transformation agenda of the country”.
In his acceptance remarks on behalf of Members, the newly sworn-in Chairman, Prof. Obeng Mireku, expressed profound appreciation for the appointment and promised that he and his team will work hard to make the University a world-class Centre of Excellence.
“We pledge to uphold, fulfil, and promote policy directives, mandates, core values, and statutes of the University as we together with relevant stakeholders, leverage on the achievements of the previous Governing Council to move the institution forward,” he assured.
The University of Cape Coast Governing Council is the highest decision-making body responsible for providing strategic direction for the University Management within the framework of the University’s mission, vision, and core values.
