Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon (PRESEC) has clinched a spot in the 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Semi-finals after an impressive performance in the Quarter-finals.

PRESEC secured a decisive 59-point victory over Pope John Senior High School & Minor Seminary, which scored 46 points, and St. James Seminary SHS, which finished with 31 points. The contest, held at the SGS Auditorium, was marked by intense competition and highlighted the academic prowess of all three schools.

In Round One, PRESEC set the pace with 26 points, followed by Pope John SHS with 21 points, while St. James Seminary SHS trailed closely at 20 points. The stage was set for a closely contested battle, with all schools showing determination.

The action intensified in Round Two, known as the Prudential Life Insurance Speed Race. PRESEC expanded their lead by scoring 38 points, Pope John SHS accumulated 30 points, and St. James Seminary SHS garnered 17 points.

The Problem of the Day round, which challenged the schools’ problem-solving skills, proved difficult for all teams. Pope John SHS managed to score 3 out of 10 points, while PRESEC secured 2 points, and St. James SHS earned 1 point.

In the Jupay True/False Round, PRESEC maintained their advantage, ending the round with 50 points, while Pope John SHS trailed with 43 points. St. James Seminary SHS fell behind, preparing for one last push in the final round.

The contest concluded with the GOIL Super Bonanza Riddle Round, where PRESEC answered strategically to secure their victory with a final score of 59 points. Despite a commendable effort, Pope John SHS finished with 46 points, and St. James Seminary SHS closed out with 31 points.

PRESEC’s win ensures their spot in the Semi-final Stage, keeping alive their quest for yet another NSMQ title. The Quarter-final contest demonstrated the fierce competitive spirit of all participants, each vying for academic supremacy in the nation’s most prestigious science and maths competition.
