In a commanding display of academic prowess, Eastern Regional Champions Koforidua Senior High Technical School emerged victorious in the 2024 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), securing a coveted Semi-final spot. The school triumphed over regional rivals Adonten Senior High School (SHS) and Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua, with an impressive 46-point win at the SGS Auditorium.
Before the contest kicked off, Quiz Mistress Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann set a relaxed tone, engaging the contestants in light-hearted conversations to calm their nerves. The students seized the moment to share stories about their schools and hobbies, while also enjoying some lighthearted banter with the esteemed Quiz Mistress. This warm interaction provided a brief respite from the intense competition ahead.
A Challenging Start for All Teams
The first round saw all three schools struggling to gain momentum, with more questions missed than answered. Adonten SHS remained composed, leading the round with 14 points, while Koforidua Senior High Technical School followed closely with 12 points, and Ghana SHS, Koforidua, trailed with 10 points.
Koforidua Senior High Takes the Lead in Round Two
In the ‘Prudential Life Insurance Speed Race’ of Round Two, Koforidua Senior High Technical School surged ahead, answering five questions correctly to bring their score up to 24 points. Adonten SHS fell behind with 15 points, while Ghana SHS, Koforidua, closed the round with 11 points, struggling to keep up with the pace.
A Decisive Performance in the ‘Problem of the Day’
Koforidua Senior High continued their strong performance by scoring six points in the ‘Problem of the Day’ round, increasing their total to 30 points. Adonten SHS failed to earn any points in this round, while Ghana SHS, Koforidua, gained four points, bringing their tally to 15.
Dominance in the Jupay Money Transfer True/False Round
The Eastern Regional Champions showcased their mastery of the quiz by answering six questions correctly in the Jupay Money Transfer True/False round, boosting their score to 40 points. Despite commendable efforts by Adonten SHS and Ghana SHS, Koforidua Senior High Technical School remained unchallenged, solidifying their position as the front-runners.
A Grand Finale in the GOIL Super Bonanza
In the final round, known as the ‘GOIL Super Bonanza,’ Koforidua Senior High Technical School clinched their victory by solving two riddles, ending the contest with 46 points. Their success in the riddle section also earned them the GH₵1,000 GOIL Super Bonanza Award, marking a triumphant day for the school. Ghana SHS and Adonten SHS each finished with 25 points.
