KNUST suspends non-academic gatherings over coronavirus fears

Following two confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the country, Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has taken steps to guarantee the safety of members of its community.

The measures include the suspension of non-academic gatherings on its campus.

Additionally, the University has suspended until further notice, all international conferences to be hosted by it.

It has also suspended all international travels of staff.

All incoming ad outgoing exchange programs, as well as international visits of foreign partners, Professor and collaborators including tours on campus by visitors, have also been suspended until further notice.

The University ha equally directed staff and students returning from abroad to report first at the University Hospital for screening before resuming official work.

Meanwhile, some major public tertiary institutions have announced protocols to control or prevent the spread of the virus on their respective campus.

Among these are the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Health and Allied Sciences and the University of Ghana.

Two persons test positive for coronavirus in Ghana

On Thursday, March 12, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu announced that the country had become the latest in Africa to record cases of the virus.

According to the Minister, the two infected persons were from Norway and Turkey.

He added that the two were currently kept in isolation and are stable.

Kwaku Agyemang-Manu further stated that it has initiated processes for contact tracing.

Africa making progress in the fight against coronavirus

Whilst the number of reported cases of the virus is rising steadily in Africa, the are equaling increasing reports of persons who have recovered.

Health officials in Nigeria have announced that the two patients who tested positive for the virus have recovered.

Also, a significant number of patients in Egypt, the worst-hit country in Africa, have also recovered.
