Professor Christian Agyare has been appointed Provost of the College of Health Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). His appointment takes effect from 1st August 2020.
He is currently the Head of Quality Assurance and Planning Unit and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Prof. Agyare obtained his doctorate from University of Muenster, Germany and an alumnus of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
He attained his Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) and Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degrees from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He completed his secondary school education at Prempeh College, Kumasi, Ghana.
Professor Agyare was appointed a Lecturer at KNUST in 2003 and promoted to Senior Lecturer Associate Professor in 2011 and 2016 respectively.
His research areas and interests include the search for antimicrobial, wound healing and anti-inflammatory agents from medicinal plants and natural products. He also researches on antibiotic resistance in animals and humans. He has been a post-doctoral fellow at University of California San Francisco, California and the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research, Boston, USA.
Professor Agyare has more than 150 publications including 80 papers in International Peer-review Journals, 60 articles published in Conference Proceedings and has co-authored 10 Book Chapters.
He is a reviewer for more 80 peer-review international journals and a member of Editorial Boards of 35 International Journals. He has attracted research grants and funds over US$ 4.6 million over the past 17 years.
He was adjudged the Best Researcher at KNUST and won the Young African Researcher Award in 2016. He was also awarded outstanding Contribution in Reviewing for Journal of Ethnopharmacology and Toxicology Reports published by Elsevier Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 2017.
He has considerable experiences in university teaching and collaborative research, international relations and outreach services delivery, institutional management, research management, and headship/chairmanship/membership of high profile Boards, Committees and Teams, including First African Member, Board of Directors, Society of Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research; Chairman, Administration, Human Resource and Legal Committee and Member of National Oversight Committee of National Health Insurance Authority; Member of Governing Boards of National Health Insurance Authority and Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH); Executive Member of PSGH; Fellow of Ghana College of Pharmacists; Member of Quality Assurance and Legal Committee of Pharmacy Council; Member, Academic Board of KNUST; Member, Executive Committee; Planning and Resources Committee; Budgetary Committee of KNUST;

Member, KNUST College of Health Sciences Board; Member, Management Committee of College of Health Sciences; Member, Rationalisation Committee; Faculty Board, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Member, University Health Services Management Committee and Member of University Information Technology Unit (UITS) Management Committee of KNUST. He has been deeply involved in the quality assurance systems and issues; Accreditation of new programmes and Reaccreditation of existing programmes and also serve as an International Quality Assurance Expert for Distance Education and Learning for Namibia Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
He serves as an external examiner to several Universities around the World including Department of Pharmacy and Complementary Medicine, Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya; Faculty of Science and Agriculture, University of Limpopo, South Africa; Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria, South Africa and Banasthali University/Vidyapith, Rajasthan, India. He is also a Fellow of L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Foundation. He is a Pharmacist and a past Chairman of Academic, Social and Research Pharmacists’ Association and also an Executive member of Standing Executive Committee (SEC) and National Governing Board of Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH). He is an alumnus of Global Young Academy (GYA) and a member of Membership Selection Committee of GYA since 2012. He was a Foundation member of Ghana Young Academy (GhYA) and currently an alumnus of Ghana Young Academy (GhYA).
Professor Agyare is married to Dr. Charlotte S. Agyare, a Pharmacist, and the couple is blessed with three children; Nana Ama, Paa Kwaku and Maame Ama.
