KGL Foundation Improves Sanitation at PRESEC Adukrom

The KGL Foundation has inaugurated a newly renovated 24-seater water closet toilet facility for the boys’ dormitories of the Presbyterian Senior High Technical School (PRESEC) at Adukrom in the Okere District of Ghana’s Eastern Region. The project represents a significant upgrade from a previously existing 12-seater facility and follows a formal appeal by the school authorities. It is expected to ease longstanding sanitation challenges faced by more than one thousand male students residing on campus.

Addressing Critical Student Welfare Needs

Sanitation has remained a pressing concern at many second cycle institutions across Ghana. At PRESEC Adukrom, the earlier toilet facility had become inadequate due to increased enrolment and years of heavy use.The new 24-seater water closet system is designed to improve hygiene standards, reduce congestion in the dormitory area, and promote a healthier living environment for students. The intervention also complements two mechanised boreholes previously provided by the KGL Foundation to the school.

Foundation Reaffirms Commitment to Education

Speaking at the inauguration, the Head of Programs at the KGL Foundation, Nii Ankonu Annorbah-Sarpei, described the project as part of the Foundation’s broader commitment to education and student welfare. He explained that the KGL Foundation, as the corporate social responsibility arm of the KGL Group, prioritises sustainable social impact through targeted investments in education infrastructure.“This upgrade reflects our dedication to creating a conducive learning environment for students. Our focus is on long-term impact across key areas including Health, Education, Entrepreneurship, Youth Empowerment, Arts, Culture, and Sports,” Mr Annorbah-Sarpei said.He added that the Foundation’s interventions are aimed at improving everyday conditions that directly affect teaching, learning, and student well-being.

Transforming Lives Through Social Investment

According to the Foundation, investments in basic infrastructure such as water and sanitation are essential to transforming lives, particularly in boarding schools where students depend entirely on institutional facilities.By addressing water and sanitation challenges, the KGL Foundation noted that schools are better positioned to maintain discipline, improve health outcomes, and support academic performance.

School Management Expresses Gratitude

The Headmistress of Presbyterian Senior High Technical School, Mary Lomokie Amlalo, expressed appreciation to the KGL Foundation for responding promptly to the school’s request. She described the previous toilet facility as being in a poor and deteriorated condition, which posed daily challenges for both students and staff.Mrs Amlalo assured the Foundation, parents, and the wider community that the school management would institute a strict maintenance regime to preserve the new facility for current and future students.

Raising Sanitation Standards in Ghanaian Schools

The commissioning of the modern water closet system marks a notable improvement in sanitation standards at PRESEC Adukrom. Education stakeholders have repeatedly called for stronger partnerships between the public sector and private foundations to address infrastructure gaps in Ghanaian schools. The intervention by the KGL Foundation adds to growing efforts by corporate organisations to support education through practical, needs-driven projects that deliver lasting benefits.
