The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency (H.E.) Sugandh Rajaram has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson on Tuesday, 20th April 2021 at the Council Chamber. The visit forms part of his first official visit to the Ashanti Region to interact with key stakeholders in the Region. He was accompanied by the Political Officer of the High Commission of India, Mr. Tushar K. Uniyal.
In his remark, H. E. Rajaram appreciated the long-standing relationship that has existed between India and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He proposed that both parties should assess other areas of collaboration that would enhance research, staff and student’s exchanges.
He added that most Africans pursue their tertiary education in India, a development the India government cherishes so much. He revealed plans of establishing the ‘Pan-African Education Network’ which will be spearheaded by the KNUST because of the unique programmes run by the University and its ability to influence other institutions of higher learning through effective mentorship. He stated that they chose KNUST because it has the expertise to make the project a success.
His Excellency Rajaram as part of his visit donated 116 books to expose students to the various aspects of India by establishing ‘‘India Corner’’ in the University Library. The books present an invaluable source of multifaceted society of India, that focuses on various subjects.
He was hopeful that the books would satisfy the needs of the students and rekindle their interest to know more about India and ultimately foster closer relationships between Ghana and India.
Receiving the books, the Vice-Chancellor expressed much gratitude for their donation and visit. She asserted that KNUST as a research-driven institution places much value on the partnerships signed with stakeholders and other institutions of higher learning.
She was hopeful that the collaboration proposed by the High Commissioner would contribute to the development of the country and the world at large.
Present at the ceremony were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo, Head of Quality Assurance and Planning Unit, Professor Jerry John Kponyo, the University Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, and the Deputy Librarian, Michael Ahenkorah-Marfo.
