Ferdinand | EducationGhana | July 11 | GEY HEY BOUNCES THE BOYS! Wesley Girls’ Dazzle to Clinch Central Zonal Final in NSMQ 2025
Wesley Girls’ High School outshines traditional powerhouses St. Augustine’s College, Mfantsipim School, and University Practice SHS to win the Central Zonal Final of NSMQ 2025. Here’s how the girls schooled the boys all the way to the top.
They Came, They Saw, They Solved!
Wesley Girls’ High School (GEY HEY) have sealed their reign as Central Region Champions in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after a trailblazing run that ended with a solid 43-point finish in the grand finale, sending clear signals to all national contenders.
In a showdown that many expected to be a boys’ affair, the brilliant ladies of Wesley Girls’ flipped the script, “geying hey” their way past three of the region’s most respected contenders.
Final Scores:
- 👑 Wesley Girls’ High School (GEY HEY) – 43pts
- 🧠 St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) – 40pts
- 📘 University Practice SHS (UPSHS) – 34pts
- 🔴 Mfantsipim School (MOFOR) – 28pts
A Journey of Excellence: How the Finalists Got Here
Wesley Girls’ High School (GEY HEY)
From Day One, GEY HEY proved they were no fluke. In the earlier regional contest, they knocked out Aggrey Memorial, Swedru Sec Tech, and Edinaman SHS, with a confident performance that stunned many.
Their calculated, methodical approach, excellent buzzer coordination, and sheer confidence have defined their journey. It’s no surprise they sealed the final with grace and grit.
St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO)
The boys in red and black showed up and showed out, coasting through their earlier group with 65 points, confidently brushing off Mfantsiman Girls’, Nyakrom SHTS, Hope College, and Obiri Yeboah SHS.
Despite a tight race in the finals, AUGUSCO fell just short of GEY HEY’s scientific firepower. Their consistent performance, however, secures them a fierce contender spot at nationals.
University Practice SHS (UPSHS)
With just a 3-point lead in their semifinal (38pts over Mankessim SHTS at 35pts), UPSHS has been the dark horse. Calm under pressure and always inching forward, they entered the finals as a tactical squad—only to be dazzled by the girls’ intensity.
Their 34-point finish shows that they’re not done yet. Expect a surprise at nationals.
Mfantsipim School (MOFOR)
The two-time NSMQ champions had a good run, defeating Adisadel College and others earlier with 48 points in the semis. However, their final performance lacked the pace and punch expected from the “Botwe boys.”
With only 28 points in the final, many are calling it a wake-up call for the once-feared champions.
What This Means Going Forward
With Wesley Girls’ High School leading the pack, and St. Augustine’s, UPSHS, and Mfantsipim close behind, the Central Region is sending a powerhouse delegation to the national championship.
Expect fireworks, buzzer battles, and scientific showdowns when they meet other zonal champions from Ashanti, Volta, Western, and Greater Accra.
