Ferdinand | EducationGhana | February 6 | GES Takes Disciplinary Action Over Feeding Incident at Savelugu SHS
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has sanctioned officials and assigned the Municipal Director to supervise feeding at Savelugu SHS following investigations into a viral feeding incident.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken disciplinary action following investigations into a feeding incident at Savelugu Senior High School that gained attention on social media in January 2026.
In a statement dated 4th February 2026 and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, GES outlined findings from its inquiry and announced immediate corrective measures.
What Happened
According to GES, students were scheduled to be served jollof rice with eggs for supper on the day of the incident. However, the supplier failed to deliver the eggs. The school proceeded to serve the meal without the eggs and informed students that double protein would be provided in the subsequent meal.
Management described the decision as unacceptable, stating that alternative measures could have been explored instead of serving the meal without the expected protein component.

Headmaster’s Absence and External Activity
The statement further revealed that the headmaster was absent at the time of the incident, having obtained prior approval from the Municipal Director of Education.
It also noted that the school’s dining hall had been booked for a New Patriotic Party (NPP) event in the constituency on the same day. During that activity, a party member reportedly recorded and circulated the video that later went viral.
GES clarified that the incident was an isolated case, attributing it to inadequate supervision at the time. The Service maintained that the situation does not reflect the school’s usual feeding standards.
Disciplinary Measures and Oversight
GES confirmed that appropriate disciplinary action has been taken. Additionally, the Municipal Director of Education has been temporarily assigned to oversee the school’s feeding arrangements to ensure compliance with required standards.
Management assured parents, students, and the public that the provision of adequate and quality meals remains a priority for the Ghana Education Service.
