The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar for Basic Schools, covering Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools (JHS). In a notice dated 12th July 2025, GES announced key term dates and the official schedule for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

 

📅 2025/2026 Academic Calendar Highlights

FIRST TERM (15 WEEKS)

  • Reopening: 2nd September 2025
  • Closing: 18th December 2025
  • Vacation: 19th December 2025 – 7th January 2026
  • Mid-Term Break: 31st October – 3rd November 2025

SECOND TERM (12 WEEKS)

  • Reopening: 8th January 2026
  • Closing: 1st April 2026
  • Vacation: 2nd April – 20th April 2026

THIRD TERM (13 WEEKS)

  • Reopening: 21st April 2026
  • Closing: 23rd July 2026
  • Vacation: 24th July 2026

📝 2026 BECE Schedule

GES confirmed that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will take place from Monday, 4th May to Friday, 11th May 2026. The early scheduling allows for adequate national planning and smooth coordination across all districts.


🔔 GES Directives and Acknowledgements

The release, signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, reminded all stakeholders to observe public holidays and the designated mid-term breaks throughout the year. School heads, teachers, parents, and guardians are urged to plan effectively using the approved dates to ensure academic stability.

Management also expressed gratitude to educators and stakeholders for a successful 2024/2025 academic year, officially ending on Thursday, 24th July 2025.
