GES Releases 2025/2026 Academic Calendar for Basic Schools

Accra, July 11, 2025 — The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year for all Basic Schools, including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools.

In a circular issued and signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of Schools and Instructions Division, on behalf of the Acting Director-General, GES directed all Regional Directors of Education to ensure that Heads of Basic Schools in their jurisdictions strictly adhere to the outlined provisions of the calendar.

The memo emphasizes GES’ commitment to ensuring a smooth and effective academic year. It calls for effective coordination and compliance by school heads to support efficient teaching, learning, and academic supervision.

Copies of the directive have been sent to the Chairman of the GES Council and Acting Deputy Director-Generals at GES Headquarters in Accra, ensuring alignment at all administrative levels.

The release of the calendar is seen as part of broader efforts by the GES to strengthen structure, consistency, and academic excellence across basic education in Ghana.

TERM 1 (15 Weeks)
Start Date: 2nd September 2025 

Vacation: 
– KG – JHS 2: 18th December 2025 
– JHS 3: 19th December 2025 



TERM 2 (12 Weeks)
Start Date:
– KG – JHS 3: 8th January 2026 to  1st April 2026 

Vacation: 2nd April to 20th April, 2026



TERM 3 (13 Weeks) 
Start Date: 21st April 2026 
Vacation (End of Academic Year): 23rd July 2026 


BECE:4th – 11th May 2026 



Mid-Term Breaks:
– Term 1 Mid-Term: 31st October – 3rd November 2025 (2 days) 



NOTE:
– All public holidays must be observed as declared. 
– Mid-term breaks apply to all basic school levels.
