SHS3 Students Resume Academic Work as GES Maintains 2024/25 School Calendar

 

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially confirmed that all Senior High School Form 3 (SHS3) students are to return to school today, January 3, 2025, as previously scheduled in the 2024/25 academic calendar.

According to a GES press release dated January 2, 2025, both day and boarding students in their final year must report to school immediately to commence academic work and prepare for the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

 

No Changes in SHS3 Reopening Date Despite CHASS Request

The GES reaffirmed that the reopening date for SHS3 students remains unchanged, despite calls from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) for an extension.

“The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to remind students, staff, parents, and the general public that the 2024-25 academic year calendar has not changed.

As previously announced, SHS3 students are expected to report back to school on January 3, 2025, while primary and Junior High Schools will reopen on January 8, 2025,” the press release stated.

 

Government to Address CHASS Concerns

 

On the concerns raised by CHASS, the GES assured that the government is working towards a speedy resolution of the issues affecting secondary schools.

“Management of GES is engaging the Ministry of Education for a swift resolution of concerns raised by CHASS,” the statement added.

SHS3 Academic Calendar for 2025

As per the 2024/2025 academic calendar, SHS3 students will stay in school from January 3, 2025, to April 16, 2025. They will proceed on a short break from April 17 to April 22, 2025, and resume academic work from April 23 to August 29, 2025.

 

Additionally, SHS3 students will sit for the 2025 WASSCE between July and August 2025, marking the final phase of their senior high school education.

 

SHS1 and SHS2 Reopening Dates

While SHS3 students have resumed school, other year groups have different reopening dates:

  • SHS2 students will return to school on February 10, 2025, and remain in school until March 23, 2025. Their third term will start on July 28, 2025, and end on October 17, 2025.
  • SHS1 students in double-track schools will complete Term 1 on February 7, 2025. They will return for Term 2 from May 26 to July 25, 2025, and finish the academic year with Term 3 from August 31 to October 17, 2025.
