Ferdinand | EducationGhana | December 20 | GES Assures 2024 WASSCE Results May Be Released by Year-End Amid WAEC Debt Challenges
GES Director-General expresses hope for the 2024 WASSCE results release by year-end despite a GH₵118 million debt owed to WAEC, causing delays in processing.
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service(GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah, has
expressed optimism that the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released before the end of the year.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, Dr. Nkansah disclosed that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) had been in active communication with the Ministry of Education regarding the status of the results.
While WAEC has set an internal deadline, Dr. Nkansah cautioned that unforeseen circumstances could lead to delays.
“We are sure the results will be released possibly before the year ends,” he affirmed.
Outstanding Debt Hindering Progress
The Director of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, shed light on the delays, attributing them to an outstanding debt of GH₵118 million owed by the government.
According to Mr. Kapi, this debt has significantly hindered WAEC’s ability to finalize the result processing.
“We intended by now to be processing the results, because, as we mentioned earlier, the marking of the scripts for both the theory and practical aspects is complete,” he stated.
He explained that the objective section, which requires specialized machines for processing, remains the only pending task.
“We thought that by the 19th of this month, all things being equal, we could release the results before the office closes for the Christmas break,” he added.
