GES announces conditions and approved subjects for Study Leave With Pay 2024, encouraging professional development among eligible employees in Ghana.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has outlined the conditions and approved subject areas for Study Leave With Pay for the academic year 2024. This initiative aims to support professional development among its eligible employees across various educational disciplines.

Conditions for Granting Study Leave With Pay

  1. Minimum Years of Service: Eligible applicants must have completed a minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory service with the GES. Upon completion of Study Leave With Pay, beneficiaries will be bonded for the number of years served plus an additional year.
  2. Service in Deprived Areas: Staff who have served in designated deprived areas for two (2) years may be considered for Study Leave With Pay.
  3. Non-Professional Graduate Teachers: Non-professional graduate teachers are required to have served for at least one (1) year before becoming eligible for any Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) course.
  4. Staff Returning from Secondment: Employees returning from secondment must serve a minimum of two (2) years before qualifying for Study Leave With Pay.
  5. Re-engaged Staff: Staff who vacate the service and are re-appointed/re-engaged must serve a minimum of five (5) years before becoming eligible for Study Leave With Pay.
  6. Ineligibility and Reapplication: Applicants who do not qualify for Study Leave With Pay in the first year of application cannot reapply in the subsequent year. They may apply for Study Leave Without Pay instead.
  7. Age and Duration of Course: Applicants must have a minimum of two (2) years of service remaining after completing the course. Staff aged fifty-five (55) years and above are ineligible for Study Leave With Pay for courses lasting four (4) years or more.
  8. Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must demonstrate good conduct and performance and obtain a recommendation from their immediate supervisor.

Approved Subject Areas for Study Leave With Pay 2024

The approved subject areas are divided into teaching and teaching & non-teaching categories, each with specific percentage allocations as previously detailed.

  • Teaching Subjects: Includes subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Engineering, Integrated Science, English Language, Physical Education, French, and ICT.
  • Teaching & Non-Teaching Subjects: Encompasses subjects like Laboratory Technician, Accounting, Procurement, Visual Arts, Vocational Education, and Technical Courses.

Application Process

  • Application Forms: Obtain application forms from Metro/Municipal/District Education Offices.
  • Required Documents: Complete four copies of the application form and attach certified true copies of certificates.
  • Submission: Submit applications to the Regional Director through the Metro/Municipal/District Director/Head of Institution (2nd Cycle).
  • Deadline: The deadline for submission is Thursday, 31st October, 2024. Regional/District Directors must ensure timely submission of qualified applicants’ lists to the Acting Director, Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD) at GES Headquarters.
