Change grading system from 80% to 70% for ‘A’ using E-Learning System – UEW SRC

The President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Education (UEW), Emmanuel Oduro Fosu, has called for the need the for the University to consider changing the grading system to 70per cent for grade ”A”.

The president said among many concerns of the students of the University as part of challenges being faced by students with regards to the E-Learning System being introduced by the University’s management in the midst of the COVID-19 POandemic.

The President argued that the smooth flow of teaching and learning using the E-Learning platform was not as easy as the face-to-face lectures.

He believed that the call for a reduction in the grading system should be a matter of interest to all Universities.

Duration

The president said the University should increase the duration for lectures since the lectures on the online learning is not as simple as compared to the face to face lectures.

He called for an increase in the duration for lectures and quizzes to allow students who could not type faster to benefit from the opportunity.

He said the online learning uses network and could fail at any possible time.

He called for an urgent consideration on the duration of lectures using the online learning.

Assessment

The SRC said the students should be given at least  2-3 weeks prior notice of a quiz, mid sem or end of semester exams

 Students who by genuine reasons are not able to write the exams should have another supplementary paper with a diff date not devoid of prior notice.

He also said the number of Assessments for the semester should be reduced.

Pre-Internship

The SRC argued that the Pre-Internship that is mostly done by level 300 students should be given enough consideration.

He said the pre-internship happens between a lecture and students where the students demonstrate for a lecture to see and make his recommendations and remarks.
