Ferdinand | EducationGhana | December 18| Breaking: 2024 WASSCE Results to Be Released Before Christmas Amid Scanning Challenges
Breaking news: 2024 WASSCE results to be released before Christmas. Learn why the delay occurred and how students can access their results.
Â
The Ghana Education News team can confirm that the much-anticipated 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results will be released before Christmas. Reliable sources within the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) indicate that school candidates can expect their results by Monday, 23rd December 2024.
This announcement brings relief to students, parents, and tertiary institutions, which are awaiting the results to finalize admission processes for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Why the Delay?
The release of this year’s results has faced delays due to two key factors:
- Government Indebtedness: WAEC is owed approximately GHS 118 million by the government, impacting its operations.
- Equipment Failure: The direct cause of the delay was a breakdown of WAEC’s objective test scanners during the marking process in November 2024.
WAEC has since addressed these challenges to ensure the timely release of results for candidates.
What Students Should Expect
Ahead of the results release, WAEC will make available the 2024 WASSCE result checker vouchers for sale at wholesale and retail outlets nationwide. These vouchers are required for students to access their results on the official WAEC portal.
For Candidates Who Pass
Successful candidates will be able to complete tertiary institution admission processes, with schools set to release their admission lists and letters promptly after results are out.
For Candidates Who Fall Short
Students who do not meet the required grades for first-degree programmes are advised to consider alternative pathways, including:
- Private WASSCE Exams: Scheduled for January 2025, this provides an opportunity to improve grades.
- Diploma Programmes: Public and private universities offer diploma courses as a pathway for further education.
Consequences of Exam Malpractices
Candidates who engaged in cheating during the examinations should brace for possible penalties. WAEC is expected to cancel results for specific subjects or, in severe cases, the entire results of candidates found guilty of malpractice.
Importance of Timely Results Release
The timely release of the 2024 WASSCE results is crucial to:
- Enable tertiary institutions to process admissions efficiently.
- Ensure students commence the 2024/2025 academic year without delays.
WAEC is working diligently to meet its commitment to candidates and stakeholders despite the challenges faced.
How to Check Results
Once released, students can access their results by:
- Purchasing a valid WASSCE result checker voucher.
- Visiting WAEC’s official result-checking portal.
- Entering the required details, including their examination number and PIN from the result checker.
