The University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council has been petitioned to give students some days to go for their belongings over increasing cases of theft on campus.
The University has recently recorded several theft cases in some halls of residence in the absence of students on campus.
The occupants of the rooms who had returned to retrieve personal belongings report that the rooms had been ransacked with all visible valuables (cash, jewellery, etc) stolen.
In a letter sighted by #UniversNews, SRC presidential hopeful, Ebenezer Gyan noted that the reports of theft cases on campus have left many students worried about the safety of their valuable items such as laptops, books and clothes.
According to him, it has become apparent that security on the University’s campus has been breached and therefore students must be allowed to go for their items.
In an address on Sunday 15th March 2020, President Akufo – Addo ordered that “all universities, senior high schools and basic schools, i.e. public and private schools, will be closed down Monday 16th March 2020 till further notice”
