13-year-old School girl creates a game after one week of ICT Training

OLD
Communications and Digitalisation Minister, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful on Friday, September 10, 2021, commenced a seven-day working tour of the Western North Region, visiting some selected centres for the training of girls in ICT.

She visited the Sefwi Nsawora, Sefwi Akontombra, and Suaman training centres.
The minister also used the tour to monitor the government’s rural Telephony Project aimed at bridging the country’s yawning digital divide in the region.

“I believe that if we better understood the role of technology and the opportunities therein and find a better way to communicate it to our young girls, while at the same time showcasing female role models in the field, we stand a better chance of churning out more and more technology-focused young women,” Mrs Owusu-Ekuful told reporters during her visit to the training centres.

A 13-year-old Ella demonstrated to the minister and her team a game she had successfully created after a week of ICT training. The training, Ella says enabled her to break “a myth of being swallowed by a computer mouse if one touches it.”

The majority of the girls were seeing and touching a computer for the first time during the minister’s visit. They were very appreciative of the training they are being given.
The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation promised devices and access to the internet to the girls for continuous practice.
