World Bank Director Visits Father Campbell’s Foundation to Empower Street Children Through GEOP

The World Bank Country Director and his team recently visited Father Campbell’s Foundation in Weija, a pivotal intervention center under the Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP).

The visit aimed to assess the impact of the project on street children who have been rescued and provided with structured educational opportunities.

Rescuing and Educating Vulnerable Youth

The teenagers at the foundation, aged between 15-18 years, were previously out-of-school children living on the streets. Through GEOP, they have been enrolled in a 6-9 month targeted accelerated learning program focused on acquiring basic numeracy and literacy skills.

After completing this phase, they will have the chance to pursue competency-based skills training in certified programs aligned with their interests.

Emotional Testimonials from Beneficiaries

During the visit, several teenagers shared their emotional stories, shedding tears as they recounted their difficult pasts and the transformative journey they have embarked upon. They expressed deep gratitude to GEOP and Father Campbell’s Foundation for giving them a second chance at life through education, shelter, and vocational training.

“I never thought I’d have the chance to learn or dream again,” one teenager shared, highlighting the life-changing impact of the program.

Comprehensive Support for Holistic Development

The foundation, supported by social workers and healthcare professionals, provides a holistic approach to rehabilitation. Beyond literacy and numeracy education, students receive technical and vocational skills training to facilitate their reintegration into society. The supportive environment fosters both academic growth and emotional healing.

World Bank’s Endorsement and Commitment

The World Bank team commended the foundation for its dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable children. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ghana’s efforts in inclusive education and social protection. The visit underscored the transformative power of education in addressing social inequalities and providing opportunities for a brighter future.

Conclusion

The visit by the World Bank Country Director highlights the significant role of the Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP) in changing the lives of street children. With continued support, initiatives like these can bridge educational gaps, foster skill development, and offer hope to Ghana’s most vulnerable populations.
